I have 2 servers, The first is an ’03 r2 server which is the VPN host and primary domain controller on our network.
The other is an older ’00 server located at a remote site.
All have the latest updates and service packs.
I can successfully establish a VPN connection using the the “new connection” process, pptp, it works flawlessly.
All our remote workstations work fine using the same setup.
I configured RRAS in ’00 to connect the VPN when the server starts. (PPTP, demand dial, etc.) It fails to start on boot, I get an error in the log that says it was unable to agree on a PPP control protocol. This always happens. I connect manually from inside rras and it connects fine.
The second issue is; once connected, the remote server does not appear on the network. I can ping both sides from each other, but not any of the other workstations/servers on the network. I need to have the server registered on the network…
Again, the “dial up” vpn (not RRAS) works fine.
I need to have the vpn up 24/7, whether someone is logged in or not.
What could I have missed?
