    Win2K PC does not shutdown

    Why my PC with W2K does not shutdown after i do so, stays on and I have to power it down ???
    Thanks for the help

      If your Win2K does not shutdown then just pull the power out of the wall.

      Make sure your PC’s motherboard is fully ACPI compliant. ACPI is newer/better than the older APM standard, which Windows 2000 does not handle very well.

      Instead of going to START\SHUT DOWN, hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and choose SHUT DOWN\SHUT DOWN AND POWER OFF.

      Have you tired going to the Windows Update site and getting service pack 2? Service Pack 3 is out now but I would hesitate to use that yet. I have had print spooler problems with it. Also, you can do Ctrl | Alt | Delete and end all tasks and then Shutdown.

      Try getting the latest updates from the Windows update site. Don’t use Service Pack 3 yet, try SP2 instead. Also, you can try a workaround of adding a shortcut to your desktop with a command line of rundll.exe user.exe,exitwindows I use it a lot with Win98/2000 systems.

      It could be to do with the soft-power touch button on your pc, try checking it out…

      Try downloading the latest service pack, but also update your BIOS (I had a problem on my HP vectra similar to this). The problem usually lies with the HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) and problems such as the computer not being fully ACPI compliant(check your motherboard manual or the manufactureres website for details). I cured the problem by firstly flashing the BIOS to the latest release and then applying the latest servie pack….BINGO works a treat now.
