don’t know if you can help me, but trying to help a friend get on the
internet with a modem – its an upgraded 486dx w/new 1G and newcom modem w/drivers – and we’ve got the modem in the pc, and have installed the drivers that came with the modem, and when
we try to install the isp software there’s a message that says
“cannot connect to central computer” …. have called the isp
tech support line, but so far have not been able to talk to a real live person … i had the same problem before with my computer,
and was able to speak to tech support and they went thru some
routine where thru the control panel and network configuration
they had me delete some stuff so that the only thing left was “client
for microsoft”, dial-up, and tcp/ip … and then i don’t remember
what else i had to do … but my understanding is that i had too
many things in that list …. this modem thing is not my “A” game
’cause i really don’t have a full grasp of what all takes place and
