Win98 PC & Win2K PC on Cable Modems

By Dennis Smith ·
I have a computer that is running Windows 98 and one that has Windows 2000serv. Both are connected to the internet via cable modem. I want to be able to browse the Win98 machine from the 2000. I have File and Printsharing activated on it and the group name is the same on the server, But I still can't see it. Both are connected with a hub, and the Cable modem as well.

Have you installed the Client for Microsoft Networks? If you haven't, then that is most likely what is preventing you from being able to browse from one PC to the other. Also, just in case, make sure that File and Print Sharing is installed on both computers, as well as the client.
