HELLO
ANYTIME I SHUT MY WINODWS DOWN THE COMPUTER DISPLAYS A MESSAGE THAT "IKS NOW SAVE TO SHUTDOWN YOUR PC" BUT ON OTHER PC'S IT SHUTDOWN AUTOMATICALLY.WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM, AND WHAT REMEDY SHOULD I EMPLOY TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM.
NOTE: I USE WINDOWS 2000 PROFESSIONAL.

Some older systems don?t support being powered off by the operating system.

Read TechRepublic article titled, Troubleshoot Windows 2000 shutdown problems with these two tips.

I have similar problem. My case is ATX and it shuted down automatically when I had w98, but with w2k it does not shut down completely.Any idea?

Be sure that the function is supported at the BIOS. Not sure what your sys calls it, but mine just took immediately, after installing 98.

goto control panel\power option\APM:
make sure "Advanced power Management" is check. If this option is not available,Upgade the BIOS.
