Windows 2003 CALs

All the desktop computers (60 computers) have licensed Windows XP operating system. I have one server machine and I want to install windows 2003 server Operating system. Do I need addition CALs for accessing server applications? since all the clients are windows XP clients.

You'll need at least as many CAL's as computers if you use per seat licensing. If you use per user, you may need more than that.

Standalone server

if I don't configure the Windows 2003 server as Domain Controller, do I still need CAL ?
