Windows 2003 Open Licensing

by eballinger . Updated 19 years, 2 months ago

Hello.

I’m about to migrate two of our servers from 2000 Server to Windows 2003 Server Standard and I’m having some issues getting a clear cut answer to my question.

What I need to be able to do is have the two servers share 20 User CALs between them which of course means open licensing. The owner wont allow me to purchase the latest release of 2003 so I have to go with the oldest one available (it’s all that’s required for the purpose of the migration) for both machines.

Does anyone have any idea as to which Windows 2003 (again has to be the oldest release to purchase) that I have to purchase and what in addition is needed to be able to share the CALs between the two servers? I’m assuming that the OS will come with 5 CALs.
