WINDOWS 2003 SERVER AUTO SHUTDOWN

by cbnsingram In reply to WINDOWS 2003 SERVER AUTO ...

If the OS is not fully loading it may be hardware. I have had this issue once. It turned out to be the mother board had gone bad.

Some more specifics might make it easier for one of the hardware guys to tell you how to diagnose this. For example, does the server startup, get past the Windows splash screen and to the desktop and then mysteriously restart or does it never get to or past the splash screen?

Crystal ball needed.

Putting aside the nagging question as to why/how you're managing this system:

UPS failure or thermal auto-shutdown come to mind as the typical shutdown issues.

It may just not like you, though.

Could be a lot of things

by mafergus In reply to WINDOWS 2003 SERVER AUTO ...

Let's see:

Hardware fail
OS fail
OS patch fail
Application fail

auto-restart accidentally enabled
Thermal fail (already covered)
Trojan/malware success (fail)
Power issues (already covered)
UPS config (bad sensitivity)

suggestions? start digging and be nice to it. :)

And do you get a BSOD on shut down, or is it set to automatically reboot (ugh).
