Windows 2003 server CALs

By sridhar_reddapani ·
Hello friends,

At present our company running with 2000 domain controllers(network of around 45+ with two DCs). Now they decided to upgrade to 2003 standard edition with new hardware. Now I need to install new 2003 domain controller, we already got new hardware, windows 2003 R2 standard edition with 20 CALs. I am going start it soon.. Can any one of you give any suggestions, I am worring about installing CALs thats I never did before.

What I already did are

1. Upgraded present 2000 domains with latest patches and hotfixes.
2. Upgraded all clients to up to date.

What I am planning to do next

1.running ForestPrep on Schema Master(and wait for 30 mins)
2. Running DomainPrep on Infrastructure Master in my case both are same server(and wait for 30 mins).
3.connecting 2003 server to network as a member server.
4.promoting new 2003 server as Domain controller.
5.Transfering all 5 roles from 2000 domain controller to 2003 Domain controller.

Thats it? any suggestions please...

Now again I need your help in adding CALs to 2003 server, as i got 5 free cals with server and 3 packs of 5cals each (20 cals altogether) In CALs pack I had only tracking ID.

Am i need Terminal Service CALs to access server through remote desktop from xp?

Thanks
Sridhar.
