I am setting up a new IT department for this company…they currently have 12 pc’s which connect to the “Server”…do I need to have a pc with server 2003 installed or can I just run a windows XP machine and set it up as the main station…
I guess I am hoping to use the “server PC” and have it run XP….

It will be necessary for you to tell us what you intend to use your server for and what control you need over the other computers attached to the network and what control you need over the other users etc.
If you simply want to share files from a central storage point then a PC running XP Pro will do that

Win XP will only allow so many connections, I believe it’s 10. Once the maximum number of connections has been made then every one else gets locked out.
