Windows 7 into an XP LAN

By pottenhausen ·
I am purchasing a few new computers with Windows 7 that will be used in our small LAN that is currently using Windows XP on the rest of the computers, anyone out there that has done this and can give me a heads up on what problems I might experience?

Getting Windows 7 and Windows XP talking....

by Peconet Tietokoneet In reply to Windows 7 into an XP LAN

First thing to do is make sure all of your computers are in the same "Workgroup".

- Default workgroup set by Windows is WORKGROUP. You may have changed it.

- In Windows 7 click Start then Control Panel.

- In Control Panel click on Network and Internet and then click on Network Sharing Center.

- Over on the right click on Change advanced sharing settings.

- Click the button next to Turn on network discovery.

- Click the button next to Turn on file and printer sharing.

- Click the button next to Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write in the Public Folders.

- If you don't want users on your network to have to enter password then click the button next to Turn off password protected sharing.

- Click Save Changes.

- Now, click Start and then Computer.

- On the right side click Network and you'll see all of the PC's running XP, Windows 7, Vista, and more.
