Windows Explorer goes to sleep

By avi138 ·
Windows Explorer goes to sleep when a right click is performed (as to check properties...) or when the 'del' key is pressed to delete a highlighted file. Also, launching programs from office shortcut bar is VERY slow, as is launching NAV 2003 from the tray.

Can't think of any new s/w or h/w I've added recently.

O.K.. Assuming you have all the Service pack updates done [and on Explorer 6 or better], and no virus is habitating your system: Try this: Go to tools pull-down, select Internet Options, Delete Cookies, Delete Files, and Check the box [Delete off-line Content], then Clear history, [This may take a while, Be patient]. After that,Click the "Programs" Tab, and reset your web settings, and uncheck the "reset my homepage" box.
Good luck!

My problem is with windows explorer, not internet explorer which works very quickly, rightclick and leftclick.

I would try to replace explorer.exe and reload the service pack. Also try using Ad-Aware from lavasoft.

Thanks for the reply. Used ad-aware before posting question. Didn't do it. System as a whole is quite fast. ONLY windows explorer, almost exclusively on right click, slows dramatically with computer use? Quite quick after reboot.

Ad-Aware?

Yes, but always - always follow this with Spybot S&amp. One catches what the other may miss.

After removal of detected 'slow-ware ad-ware', the system's speed should increase slightly. I know of about four methods that help increase system speed and performance. Adware removal is No.1 on the list and after I complete the other methods, you should see how a system flies.

Oh yes, no-one should ever forget to utilize 'CableNut'... whether you're on cable or not - it does wonders for system speed and internet connection and does for a lot more than just 'cable'.

A 700 OC'd to 800 that operates faster than a 2.5G! This simply from others statements after seeing my system fly.

Apology,

The point meant to make was AdAware alone will NOT locate all the ill-ware in a system. Running AA followed by Spybot will provide a better removal of the adware. Each catches what the other misses and even this is not a hundred percent.

Experience has proven never rely on just one program.

Your system is fast, then possibly explorer is performing a memory leak of sorts.

You could possibly 'extract' explorer.exe from the cab files to replace explorer which may do the trick.

Will give it a try, but don't expect it'll make much never mind. No harm in trying it tho. Will also look for spybot. Thanks for that tip.

Do you eventually get to properties or new folder or do you get an error. I have a W98 user who cannot right click on anything without eventually getting "Explorere caused an Invalid Page Fault in module shdoc401.dll" I rolled bck and re-installed Internet explorer (Which is tightly woven to Windows Explorer) and jumped through all kinds of hoops I found in Google Search, nothing helped. He will require a format and re-install of Windows.
One thing you might try is closing Office toolbar and see if that helps. I am not fond of that program at all asi it causes all kinds of problems.
