Windows Fax Service - Let users see same fax documents?

By online ·
I have two new server setups, one using Win 2K3 x86 and one using Win 2K3 x64.

On both, I have a shared Fax printer.

On the x86 server, both network users see all the same fax documents (sent, received, trash, etc.) which is how I want it to be.

On the x64 server, only the server console user (via Remote Desktop) can see the faxes; no outside user on the network connecting to the same Fax printer can see these.

What's going on here, and how can I make the latter setup show all received faxes to all users?

Just guessing.....

... but, since there's only one fax 'server' which is shared out, I'd be willing to bet the x64 server is being treated as another client, so nobody connected to that server could get to the fax 'server' on the other side of it without VPN through the x64 system.

FOLLOWUP: Permissions issue, I think

by online In reply to Windows Fax Service - Let ...

I experimented over the weekend and discovered that it's (of course) a permissions-related issue. I can't, however, work out the specifics so I'd appreciate some feedback.

ONLY by giving the user Admin privileges could I make the received faxes appear on her listing. (All of the users on the smaller network have Admin privs, which is why there was apparently no problem.) Obviously, I can't maintain this security hole even with a trusted employee, so I'd like to run down the specific sharing and permissions control on received faxes.

What I can't find, anywhere, is where the damned receive fax files live - I searched and searched but came up dry. I think that if I can find where the files live, I can assign appropriate permissions to that folder and let all users see all received faxes.

Does ANYONE know where the Windows Fax Service stores received faxes? Or, more to the point, how Windows manages the permissions on received faxes?
