We’re currently planning on upgrading our servers to Windows 2003 Server Std. Ed. We’re running into a few questions regarding licensing I’ve checked a bunch of reference books and despite licensing being so confusing each book has a 3 sentence blurb that doesn’t really answer our questions. Any help is greatly appreciate!
We’re currently running our network in a per server mode, but wish to run in per user/device mode. While I’m aware that this will not cause a problem, I’m a bit concerned about the appropriate installation of these CALs so that we will comply with Microsoft’s Licensing’s policies. If we purchase 400 CALs, do we install these on one server and it will apply to the entire forest or do we need to split them based upon domains? Does it matter what kind of server (DC, member) we install them on?
