Windows Notification

By kashmeir63 ·
Hi,
I have a windows environment. I have approx. 5 servers. One running a Active directory and exchange, another running a couple of websites andother terminal services and other applications. Is there a way to be notified via text message to my cell phone or by some other means when any of my servers is experincing any problems? Any help would be appreciated... Thank You

There are a number of third party applications which will notify you of a system event log failure, as well as Microsoft Operations Manager having that capability.

For some coding ideas with System Monitor see http://msdn.microsoft.com/coding4fun/coolapplications/sysmonitor/default.aspx

IP Monitor or What's Up Gold might are also products that I can recommend.

We use a product called "Servers Alive". It has worked well for us, because we can set it to email to an individual or group, call, text, whatever. We can also set it to monitor several different issues, such as, the system that I have that is web based is set up so that SA checks to make sure it can reach that web address. If it can't for a period of time, it alerts, then, when it is back up it alerts again. You can also set it up to check to see if services have gone down, and it can re-start them automatically. It's saved me a few calls through the night.
