Windows NT 4.0 does'nt detect my HDD

By arjagadish ·
WE have a IBM Netfinity 3500 server with SCSI HDD(2*4.3GB). Both the HDD's are getting detected in the Boot process, but whenever I try to install Windows NT 4.0 it says there are no HDD present in ur Server. When installing Windows 9x or 2000 server I don't find such problem......... It's as easy as a piece of cake. So what might be the problem and solution for it?

The hardrives may have a Fat32 partition, use fdisk or a partition management program to change them to fat 16, be aware using this all info on hardrive could be lost. please back up information..

If the drives are formatted with FAT 32 file system then WINNT cannot read the disk, the drive needs to be fromatted with a FAT File system, when formatting and you enabled large disk support you automatically set up FAT32.
Use fdisk /mbr
donot enable large disk support,Choose (no)
Partition the drive and then run format from command prompt

I do agree that you'll need a fat16 partition somewhere on your drives and will need to use something like partition magic to create a partition for it (if you're not going to fdisk).

If you do have a fat16 partition available, I would then be looking at getting a driver diskette for the SCSI adapter and load that during NT Setup. There should be a place where you can load secondary drivers before you hit the part to partition and load.

Good luck to you
