Windows Protection Error. You need to restart your computer.

I’ve looked up the error. 3Com claims it is due to a memory allocation conflict. They suggest an updated driver, but their drivers only will update if you get INTO Windows. I can’t.
Windows 95, 3c905c, Award BIOS 4.51, 500Mhz CPU, etc.
I’ve deltree’d the Windows dir and even gone so far as to re-format the HD. Removed the NIC. Reset BIOS to reset the PNP settings. Re-Installed repeatedly. All to no avail.
Suggestions??
