as it boots be sure to select the log to C:\bootlog in the safemode menu area. The n you can go thru in edit C:\bootlog to view what errored and or timed out. then yopu can hit http://www.microsoft.com/technet for some answers.
Sorry I couldn’t be more help but I ran across this last week and it really sucked.-

The bootlog idea in answer 2 is a good start. Windows protection errors can have a lot of causes, however. Check out Microsoft Knowledge Base Article Q149962 “Troubleshooting Windows Protection Errors”

What version of windows are you using? Also if you are using a AMD CPU 350Mhz or higher with Windows95B or C you can get a patch from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/WURecommended/S_WUServicePacks/AMDPatch/Default.asp this will correct the issue. If you have Windows95A there is no patch but you can correct the issue by underclocking the CPU. This is if you have a AMD CPU 350Mhz or higher.

You don?t give us much info but check in the
BIOS whether an IRQ is assigned to VGA.If yes, Change the graphic adapter to standard VGA, de-install your card?s drivers,
install any AGP drivers for your MB?s chipset, install DirectX 7.x, re-install your
GFX card.CU,

Sounds like a memory issue, try changing your Ram, that should solve the Problem.

I had this happen once with my PC, and I determined that the cache went bad on the MB and I ended up disabling all of that in the bios to get it to boot. It was slower then molasas, but it did boot.
The other instance I’ve seen this happen hasbeen with an AMD K6-2 chip greater the 350 Mhz running windows 95. I had to get a windows update to get windows to work. The patch can be found on MS’s download site or AMDs site.

Hi! First u have not told what is the operating that u r using, windows 95 & 98. This error is a software related one. Normally windows will work in a 32 – bit environment. When u install a 16 – bit application u may get these type of errors. Try touninstall the softwares which u loaded, after which u r experiencing these problems.
bye,
