Windows protection error" - Won't boot.

By Mikael310 ·
"Windows protection error. You need to restart you computer. System halted." Fujitsu Biblo NE3/43E laptop. When powered on, it goes straight to this message. I can't even get to the BIOS to change the boot sequence so that I can boot from a floppy or CD. What can I do to get to the BIOS?

Try "unplugging" your HD, there by forcing the
machine to boot to floppy.

Although unplugging the HDD might have been an option, I found another way to get to the BIOS by removing the battery and the power cord and then re-plugged the power cord. Upon reboot, the BIOS was then accessable. I was then able to change the boot sequence to boot from the CD drive first. I loaded ERD Commander 2002 (Winternals)from CD, pulled the important data off and saved it to a network drive (ERD Commander said that 4 hives of the registry were either "missing or corrupt"). After that,I formatted the drive and did a clean install of W2K from the install CD.
- Thanks for your help, though.
