Registry NOT MBR

by TheChas In reply to windows xp and few pro ...

Since the system is booting, you do NOT have a MBR problem.

What you have is a poor uninstall.

There are remnants of the software in any of the following places:

System files:
Run msconfig from the run box, and look for any references to the software you removed.

Windows folder:
You could have a leftover DLL or VXD file that is causing problems.

Registry:
You can access the registry through msconfig, and attempt to disable any leftover keys for the software.

Perhaps the best action is to:
Re-install the software.
Use task manager (Alt-Ctrl-Delete) to close ALL open programs except for explorer before running the install.
If you can install the software sucessfully, try to uninstall it again.
This time, make sure toshut down ALL programs before running the uninstall.
