windows XP cant read from my CD-RW drive

My XP can't read a disc in both my internal and external CD drives. I used my internal cd-rw drive one night and the following day I get a message "PLEASE INSERT A DISC IN DRIVE " What could the problem be.

Hi Did a window first come up with various appications in it? The burner app would ahve bee hi-lighted. The hi-light bar should be moved to another more appropriate choice. Another way. CANCEL the burner app. Go to my computer - right click on dresired drive and the left click or open, explore etc.
