Windows XP dropping DOS print shares

by john mac . Updated 23 years, 9 months ago

We have a DLink DP303 with 2 * Epson LQ-300’s and an HP Laserjet 1100 connected to it.

Our central networked application is MS-DOS based and we have mapped LPT1,2 and 3 to the 3 printers on a PC running XP Home Edition that we have just added toour peer-to-peer Windows-based network (TCP/IP static addressing).

The XP PC has a DLink 530TX card set to autodetect network speed. If we run it at 10M Full Duplex all is OK (though network apps appear slow). Running at 100M Full duplex the DOSport mapping is dropped i.e. status either shown as either unavailable or disconnected when shares are viewed via net use.

We have swapped network cards, changed cables, re-built the networking on it etc.etc. Windows 98 PC’s appear to have no problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.
