Windows XP File Server Sharing

By neoseeker191 ·
I work in an office with multiple Workgroups. Three to be exact. I have a Windows XP Pro File Server set up on one of the Workgroups. People from the other two Workgroups would like to connect to this file server to access data and backup data. Is this possible while in separate Workgroups?

Being in separate workgroups is not pertinent.

What is important is that all of the workstations regardless of their workgroup membership, are on the same IP network so they can get and respond to NETBIOS address resolution calls. If this is the case, then you may share outside of the workgroup the same way you share within the workgroup.

If on separate IP networks, you'll likely have to set up LMHOSTS or HOSTS entries, or a DNS mechanism so the machines can find (resolve) each other.

Be advised that Windows XP supports a maximum of 10 concurrent connections.
