Are you using Windows XP Home Edition or Professional? Are you able to log-in to Win2K domain finally or not?
Check your network card settings & TCP/IP settings. Also apply the Windows XP service packs and other updates on your workstation.
I found difficulty to log-in to Win2K domain with a PC running Windows XP home edition. I upgraded to Windows XP Pro and bingo. It works fine.

I found that by adding the DNS server IP address into the dns settings helped…

Go to local area connection and right click for properties…click on TCP/IP and click on properties…then click on the advanced button. Then click on the DNS tab and add your server IP address into the list and then make sure the address you have just added is at the top of the list…
