Windows XP Virus problem

By gops_bah ·
In Some windows XP PCs i am facing a problem that, when i open My Computer, explorer, control panel it will not open . instead of that all desktop icons will diappear for two sec and will come back. Since it is affected in more than one PCs i think it is a virus. But i have Norton 2003 with latest virus defenitions which is not identifying any virus. Now what i am doing is formatting and reinstalling.
i tried removing all startup items and all that.
Also there is no new programs or hardware installed recently.
But in safe mode windows will work properly.

Anybody has an easy solution to this...? pls reply

sure.. you have msblaster or the gaobot virus.

goto and download their stinger program.

Boot into safe mode... Disable system restore, run the program and clean your system.

Reboot normally, re-update Snorton, I mean norton... and do a full scan.

It depends on your hardware and software that is installed. Have you notice a correlation between the computers that are doing this and the speed of the hardware or RAM sizes? Or the amount of software that is running in TSR memory?

I've noticed this in some WinXP computers... but almost always it is the slower computers and you just have to wait a few moments before everything loads.

Why does it work normally in Safe Mode? Safe Mode is the basic loading of Windows' OS.... all the non-MS software and non-computer needed drivers are ignored. So it's a basic loading and everything else is ignored.

You probably do not have a problem... especially if NAV is not identifiying anything and this is the only "problem" you are having.

Nevermind... I re-read your question and i did not notice that Control Panel is not opening at all. I thought you were speaking of the normal blinking that sometimes occurs with the slower systems on the opening of Control Panel.
