Windows98 won’t play music CD

by gac1425 . Updated 25 years, 7 months ago

I have a CDROM and a CDRW (through USB port) attached to my computer which is using Windows98. I was having problems with my computer becoming unresponsive when playing a music CD through the USB connected CDRW. The music played fine but the computer becomes unresponsive and has to be interupted with ctl-alt-del. The CDROM worked fine. In trying to solve this problem I downloaded new sound drivers and installed them. Now neither the CDROM nor the CDRW will play a music CD. I get the message “Program not Found”, “Windows cannot find Play”,.. “Play is needed to open files of type: ‘AudioCD'”. How can I solve this problem and get my CDROM to play music again and my CDRW to play music and be responsive. Thanks for any ideas.
