WINS ? ? ?

By alejandro_rehu ·
Hi all,
I need help on this one, I happen to have a web server at www.dtmegasoft.com it works just fine as it is there is only one think that is bugging me, when I type the address into my web browser it goes right to the server but shows up the IP address instead of the actual www name. is that a WINS problem or I am missing something at the web site configuration control pannel?

You need a dynamic DNS,

You need a dynamic DNS, www.dyndns.com
then a router thats supports dyndns so it will keep it updated.

Please post back if you have any more problems or questions.

Dinamic DNS...

by alejandro_rehu In reply to You need a dynamic DNS,

ok, this is my scenario...
I got the server up and running, it is working as a Domain, FTP and Web server. so far it is just fine at the VPN, but I had no outside presence. So, what I did I registered my Domain name @ fortunecity and I just bought the forwarding service. so whoever types my www address will be forwarded to my server. I think this way got me as much HD space as I need plus I could use any scripts or server characteristics as I wanted for really cheap price.
does that sound like something the experts do or it is another way not as cheap but better to register your domain? something like your own registration server. This question get to my mind because I think that these guys (the ones that registered my Domain name) have to be doing something to have the capability of doing so...

I actually went to the site that registered my Domain name and check the option, "Show pointed URL in Address/Location Bar" now it shows the domain name instead... but I so not know if that is the solution I wanted since the beginning.
