WINWORD caused invalid page fault

By jnelson ·
One of my is experiencing a Winword error without getting into word. The error is:
"WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 0247:bff9db61". She gets this error when going into any of the Office 2000 products and sometimes programs that are not even related to Microsoft. She had Office97 SR2, so I upgraded Office 2000, thinking this would help...It didn't. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You should uninstall the software and reinstall the upgrade only. However, when it goes through its search for an existing version, put the old Office CD in the drive and point to it. This will trick the program into thinking it was already installed.

Doing this will allow you to get a cleaner installation by not "upgrading."

Good Luck!

Since you have already installed Office 2000,then I would suggest that you use the system repair disk,if their is one available,if disk is not available, then go a head and reinstall the operating system using the cd only,it will install the drivers fresh, then you can do a repair on the Office2000 install.Time consuming, but it will give you a fresh installation.

I suggest you copy the data off the computer to the network and format the drive. Then reinstall windows and put in Office 2000 and any other app's necessary to restore operation to the machine.

This will save you a lot of time allowing you to move on to other problems.

The problem: either Word is trying to overwrite vital operating system data, another program is trying to overwrite vital Word data, or the operating system is trying to overwrite vital Word data.
Here's what won't work: uninstalling and reinstalling any program including Word, or the Office suite by itself.
Here's what will work: backup all personal files and data stored on the local computer. Uninstall everything, including the operating system. No need to reformat or repartition the drive. Finally, reinstall one program at a time, testing the PC after every reinstall. I might even suggest reinstalling Office ASAP, that way you will be able to single out the offending program, whether it is Office, or a different program that is causing the error. Chances are, by reinstalling, you will be able to eliminate the error altogether. When all is done, don't forget to defrag your drive regularly.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
