Hello Wireless Gurus,

Please let me know your thoughts on the following:
How can you provide security to wireless LAN besides setting up MAC filters?
Dissenting opinions are welcome.

The best security is to NOT have wireless. Even with digital signatures, encrypted transmission etc when you add a wireless capability you are giving anyone with a wireless transmitter the ability to plug into your network and spend time working out how to bypass your security.

The most common desire for wireless is so that you don't have wires laying around the office. Best answer to this that I have seen was a short range, encrypted, paired infra red device that was released on the market about 3 years ago. Did not go well as each transmitted/receiver set was effectively unique and you could not swap between them.

But a short range, encrypted, line of sight infra red to go from the desk to the wall socket will give you the equivalent of a wireless capability within the office and still provide you with good security.
