wireless/dialup network

By richwoodlabs ·
I need to know how to design and setup a wireless network that uses dial up access. I only have two computers to setup. One is XP and the other is 98se.

Thank you,

Preferably, use the XP machine as the ICS host.

Then, install the Wireless cards and access point.

Configure your network so both computers are in the same workgroup with unique computer names.

Make sure to set up the security option for the access point.

Installing Zone Alarm, or similar firewall software on both PCs would be a wise move.

Enable the minimum amount of resource sharing on the ICS host.

Install ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the host.

At the end of setting up ICS, create the client setup disk.

Take the client setup disk to the other PC.
Set it up as an ICS client.

You should be set.

There are links to some good guides for setting up networks at www.wown.com

As a side note, for 2 PCs, if there is any possibility of running phone lines, or CAT 5 wire between them, you could save a lot of money on the network setup.

For phone line (or power line) networking, check out www.homepna.org

For CAT5, all you need is to wire a crossover configuration and install a NIC in both PCs.
