Wireless download problems

By Allan.Thompson@ntlworld ·
I have a remote PC connected wirelssly to a router and broadband connection which is hardwired to another PC.
The wired PC behaves normally but the remote PC has problems downloading programs, updates etc and sometimes web pages appear as hyroglyphs... which suggests to me an inconsistent signal.

The tremote is only 39ft away from the transmitter.

Any ideas?

Make sure you aren't hiding the SSID, as a poster noted in anotehr comment in here.

In the 39 feet, is there a number of walls, bathrooms, etc?

Using Microsoft Broadband Network and Windows 98SE
Signal Strength is apparently 'very good'!

Try finding driver updates for your wlan card, bios and Access point bios. Remove the old driver from your PC and install the new ones according to the instructions. Often you first have to install the software, then reboot and connect the wlan card, if you don't keep to the exact procedure above situation can appear. (I had a similar problem with a D-Link PCMCIA Wlan card because I first inserted the card, then installed the software and driver. Doing it the other way round worked.
