Wireless Laptops losing settings

By marcush2k6 ·
I have a couple of laptops (DELL Lattitude 110L) that have Intel 2200BG wireless built-in, they also have static IPs setup.

I can login locally to the laptops and authenticate to an AP and then connect wirelessly ok.

The problem then occurs that when I logout locally and wish to login with another domain account I cannot as the message 'Domain not available' appears. It's as though the laptop forgets the settings for the wireless when I logout locally.

Is there any way of getting the laptop to keep these settings so that anybody with domain access can then logon.

Any help would be appreciated.

Login with a LAN connection first

The problem is your wireless does not connect and authenticate until after you login.

Here's what you should do;

Connect physically to the LAN, created and login into each of the accounts that will use this laptop.

After each of these accounts are create on the physical LAN then try to log in and connect wirelessly and I believe you'll find everything works fine.

I wish new users to be able to login to the Domain wirelessly.
New users are not able to login wirelessly at present. Is there any reason why the laptops are not doing this?

Give a try

by Cgoeckel In reply to Laptops losing settings

If your the netadmin and have setup the laptops try this...

Log onto the laptop with a password you gave the account. Then let it pull the settings and log off. Then change the users password to the default first time password.

That is one of the steps we did at a former company. The users didn't have anything personal or confidential on the laptops yet so it wasn't considered a risk.
