wireless networking

By byteside ·
I need to set up a wireless Peer to Peer network with 4 computers. Two laptops 1 windows xp and 1 Mac. Two desktop pc's 1 windows xp and 1 windows 98. All the equipment is waiting for me I just need to set everything up to share printer and DSL internet connection. I have never set up a wireless network before and I am not sure how to do this. Can anyone give me some direction?

I usually hardwire one machine with the router. Makes it easier to configure in case the wireless machines are not connecting to the router. Change the SSID and enable 128 encryption for security. Then connect the wireless machines one by one. Make sure the LAN settings are detect settings automatically. When you configure the wireless cards make sure the settings for the SSID and 128 bit encryption match(case sensitive). Since you will file and print sharing make sure they are under the same workgroup and that they are no firewalls or they configured correctly on the system they will prevent you from file and print sharing.

If you run the network wizard make sure it does not bridge any of your connections. The bridges tend to work temporarily and then stop from working and show that you are connected to the network.

Depends on the company. IE, Linksys lets you paraphrase the password and then it makes four keys. you pick the key you want to use. Then configure the card the same same way. If the cards are not the same you will have to write it down one by one. which really sucks. I have never configured a MAC to a wireless router.

for the 128 encryption, do I just enable and the key will be automaticly produced? Also Is the the 128 encryption different for the Mac?
