Spyware or settings?

by Toivo Talikka In reply to wireless problem

Did someone else use the computer while you were away? Scan the computer for spyware using a reputable anti spyware application like Microsoft Windows Defender or Spybot Search & Destroy. You may have to burn the install file and the latest spyware definitions on a CD before installing, if you do not have a wired connection available.

Check the IP address details by going to the command prompt (Start - Run - cmd) and typing in ipconfig /all. That will show you if the DHCP (dynamic allocation of IP address) is enabled, what the IP address is and the address of the default gateway and the DNS servers. If the last few items are not there, you cannot surf.

Use the same command and compare the settings on the two computers that are working.
