Wireless problem with Windows 7

By davidghensley ·
I have a Sony Vaio VGN S3HP and loaded Windows 7 as a clean install (replacing XP) but now it can't make any wirelss connections - the wirelss switch is on, and the WLAN light illuminated, but Windows 7 doesn't seem to see any wirelss, and in control panel>Network and Internet>connect to the Internet it doesn't give a wireless option. Any ideas?

The wireless connection then you should check in the device manager to see if the wireless lan card is installed, could be that W7 has no driver for your wireless card and therefore you need to check on the Sony site to see if they have developed one yet.
There is a lesson to be learnt here though, you should always check for compatibility issues before changing your OS like that

Yes I did thanks - and I have now solved this - the wireless card drivers need updated after installing WIndows 7 - but I couldn't find this out without connecting the laptop to the internet (which is difficult if the wireless isn't working). Managed to borrow a cable to connect to the internet and found the drivers OK, so sorted now.
