Wireless Works, but router won’t hold connection to laptop

by sjzia . Updated 16 years, 7 months ago

My Lenova T61 has every device for connections and it successfully connects all over the world to wireless networks. Hotels, homes, you name it. But, here in my new vacation rental which provides wireless, it won’t.

My laptop recognizes the connection. I highlight it. hit “connect” and then enter the proper passwords. It accepts the passwords and tries to connect me. When it gets to IP address it gags. I have my laptop set for automatic, not fixed IP. Works everywhere else. No go, won’t hold the connection for more than a second.

If I change the IP to fixed and use a default like 192-168-0-1 it will connect and hold for several seconds, but then drops the connection.

I have reset the computer and router (Linksys Wireless-G) many times. I have turned off my firewall. No clue why I can’t connect and it is driving me bonkers! Help!!

John
