Won't Boot after install

By whitt4 ·
I installed Windows 95 on my old PC and now my monitor is blank or black screen. The PC comes on, the keyboard lights up, the screen light turns green and then amber. There is one beep. I cannot get into the bios or dos to take 95 back off. What canI do to cure this. It worked fine until it had to do a restart when I was installing 95.

Check that the video card, memory, and memory modules are seated fully.

Does the monitor switch from standby (amber light) to on (green light)?

It is possible, that you had a hardware fail at the re-boot.

Try the monitor on a different PC to verify that it works.
If so, try another video card in the PC.

I cannot think of a Windows reason to loose the BIOS POST screen.

You might also try resetting the CMOS memory.
As Lizzy said, the CMOS battery may be week, and causing problems.

All cards and modules are fully seated.
Yes the monitor goes from amber to green.
No, I don't think there was a hardware failure the machine sounds like it is running perfectly but the screen stays blank like it is in the process of booting but won't. I can't get to the CMOS. I tried the monitor on my machine and it works fine. Bought a battery didn't help.

Hi
"There is one beep"
The are POST error messages/beep codes for each name and version of BIOS. You have to look it up in the motherboard manual then check for the number of the beeps and what do they mean. You have to distinguish is it a short or a long beep then look it up in the motherboard manual or check what type of BIOS you have then go to the vendor site and see what does it mean a one beep.
In the case of going from green to amber the amber color means no communication and green there is a communication. This case check and a firm cable connection of the cable from THE DISPLY CARD TO THE MONTOR CABLE.

Good luck

Sounds like display adapter problem. Make sure the video card is seated properly or if it is PCI, try seating it in another slot.

The video is connected to the motherboard and I am not sure how to disconnect it. I did put in another video card and connected the monitor to it. But I got the same results, black screen.
