Word97and the normal.dot file

By graemeduncan ·
I have a W98SE and a W2000 desktop machine that when you are closing Word97 always asks if you want to save your changes to the global template. This template resides on the network.

Has anyone ever come across this problem before? This prblem isbeginning to get me mad now.

Can anyone help??

Hi

I don't know if this will apply to your version but in Word2000 on the Save tab of the Options dialogue box is a check box called Prompt to save normal template. If you deselect this option you should not receive the message.

Hope this helps

Mark

Are you saving your files in Word in your network server or stand alone workstation.

There can be a long discussion about whether the Normal.dot should be on the network vs. locally with network templates for enterprise standard docs.
If your machines are clear of local normal.dots (they can sneak in). You can write a macro named AutoClose

Sub AutoClose()
NormalTemplateSaved=True
End Sub

Be careful. There are some Word macro viruses that act this way. Check your system for viruses.
