Greetings,
I have 3 computers on a wireless network, one of which connects directly to the router via ethernet cable. The other two, a desktop and a laptop connect via wireless.
The desktop and wired machines communicate with one another just fine.
The laptop machine is giving me issues.
It is currently running windows 7, but I had the same problem arise when XP was installed. After I installed Windows 7, I was able to access the other 2 computers just fine and map networked drives from them.
I believe the issue began when I took the laptop on-campus and it connected to another network. When I came back home, the networked drives showed up as inaccessible, and has been that way ever since.
There are a few curious things here…first is that when I look at the workgroup, all computers appear in the list. From the laptop, however, if I try to browse within the other 2 machines, I get a “Windows cannot access \\”Machine”
Furthermore, I am able to access the shared folders if I use the ip address of the other 2 machines. It is the workgroup names that is giving me trouble (Netbios?).
Can anyone help me get over this hump? Is the connection to another network and reconnect to the home network coincidental, or a possible cause?
Much appreciated,
Felipe
