XP COMPUTER CD DRIVERS WON"T LOAD

By kimscomputing ·
I Built this computer for a customer who every month gets enough spyware and viruses. Now it won't find his cd drives. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and system restore but it just appears back with an exclamation point saying the driver won't load. One is a DVD Drive the other is a CDRW. I have scanned for viruses and removed a couple but the drives never came back. AMD 2000, 256K DDR, XP Home

Boot the computer into safe mode by tapping on the F8 key while it boots up.
When the startup menu comes up, choose safe mode.
Then, go into the device manager and uninstall or delete or remove any drivers with a yellow question mark, yellow exclamation, or red X.
When you reboot, if windows xp does not have native drivers, you should get a new hardware wizard.
Follow the instructions in the new hardware wizard and point it to the driver cd's or disks.

I found a solution at microsoft:
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

Restart your computer.
