XP Pro and dial-up

By SUGARSNAP ·
I am new to Windows XP. I have dial-up internet
and e-mail. Everything works except my outgoing
mail. It doesn't mail! I keep getting error messages that my connection was interrupted. Is there a setting somewhere that will fix this. I've tried not scanning outgoing mail but it made
no difference. Also disabling firewall makes no
difference.

I've been tearing my hair out for so long I should
be bald soon.- Thanks

I'm going to assume that you are using Outlook Express.

Check the settings for your outgoing mail server under tools account in OE.

Verify that the settings match those recommended by Earthlink.

Also check that auto-disconnect is not enabled in OE options.

check your smtp server setting in tools > accounts > mail > servers and make sure the smtp server name and port ties up with what your isp provides - call them if neccessary to get the name of there mail servers (specifically smtp)

I've checked all of the server settings and they are all as they are supposed to be. I am working with earthlink now to see if another server would work. There seems to be a routing problem.

Under the tools/options/mail setup there is a box that might be checked that states "hang up when finish with a manual send/receive". My version is 2002, what is yours? 5.5, 6.0? each version has its own configurations. If not sure click on help, about outlook then post version for better assistance. Also how many dialers do you have?

My version is Outlook 2002 10.(4712.4219) SP2. I'm beginning to think that it is so new that no one knows how to make it function properly.

As for the bald thing, I don't think that is considered a feminine attribute but who knows, I may start a fad. ha ha
