XP Pro & Modems

By mjarnold ·
I have XP Home on my notebook & tried to put XP PRO on my pc. I removed the programs I was told to. Everything went well until I tried to connect to the internet. I was told I had no modem ( I have V.92). After removing my modem & reinstaling I received the same message. So I let XP pick my modem. When I tried to use their modem I was told the same thing. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

It sounds like a driver problem. Have you tried finding the latest XP driver for your specific modem on-line? (of course you'd need to use a different computer to connect and look).

Tried that. Didn't work. Thank you, anyway.

XP is a little funny when it comes to drivers, especially modems. Contact the system manufacturer for system utility disks and driver disks. Most computers come with a CD full of original drivers, some do not. I had to call HP for CD's after the HDD crashed on mine.

If you already have the CD's, you may be able to add the modem drivers by using the CD. If you are still having problems, I recommend call tech support as notebook computers are fairly proprietary.

Thank you, I'll do that. I tried to call XP Pro # & they wanted to charge me for an answer. After My system got all screwed up I called Gateway & they helped me wipe my disc. Lost everything. At least I had everything on CD's!
