xp pro won recognise CDRW

By wardymark ·
I have recently built a PC for a client, with windows XP pro on, it has a single HDD and a DVD and Liteon CDRW. Everytime XP boots up, it will not recognise the CDRW, but when you go into the add hardware wizard, it finds it straight away, then nexttime you restart, it is no longer there again. Any suggestions

Not sure if it applies to your situation as I had this problem with a laptop and external CDRW

If the CDRW is external and the software is supplied by BackPack, I would go to their website and download latest drivers as the ones on the CD are notthe best. Plus it is important to follow the setup procedures e.g. install software before attaching CDRW.

2 things to check;

1. Make sure that the BIOS is set properly for the CD-RW drive, and that the master slave jumpers on the drive(s) are set correctly.

2. Make sure that the CD-RW compatability update for XP is installed.

I suspect that the BIOS is loosing the drive. You may need to manually set the IDE channel that the drive is connected to to CD-ROM, as the BIOS may not comprehend what the lite-on drive is.
A BIOS update may also correct the problem.

Tried this, but no joy, bios does recognise it, and I set to do it manually but it made no difference thanks anyway though

I would do three things. 1. Get the latest updates from MS for XP. I had to do this with my new plextore 40X CDRW. 2. Get the latest driver and firmware updates from Liteon. I went to thier site and they do have firmware updates. 3. Get the latest updates for your recording software. I use EZ CD Creator 5 and have had to update it three times, but it now works great.
