I just installed XP home, and when I try to shutdown it goes to the initial shutting down screen, but eventually locks up with no response whatsoever from the keyboard. When rebooted, it does not detect an improper shutdown. I think it may be due to my motherboard, which has both AT and ATX power connections, currently using an AT case/power supply. I’m guessing Windows thinks it can shut down the system when it really can’t. I’ve tried turning off ACPI in the bios, but then it won’t even start up. I figure there’s either a bios change, or registry edit to force Windows to go to the “OK to shutdown your system” screen.
Motherboard is Epox MVP3C or MVP3C2, AMD K62. All points to the first fix
