Your next security camera might not need to be anywhere near your house, with Amazon’s new Blink Frontier XR+ promising a wireless connection to its hub from up to 7,000 feet away.

The camera is part of a five-product expansion of Amazon’s Blink security lineup, which also introduces the brand’s first 4K camera, a battery-powered spotlight model, and a motorized pan-and-tilt camera.

The new devices target different needs, from monitoring distant gates and outbuildings to capturing more detailed footage around the home. Wireless cameras may struggle to stay connected, including distant gates, farms, and outbuildings.

Amazon says some detection features also require a compatible subscription, so buyers should look beyond the headline resolution when deciding whether the camera meets their needs.

According to Blink, that maximum range requires a clear line of sight and an outdoor-mounted hub. With heavy obstruction, the advertised range drops dramatically, and actual performance depends on interference levels.

The camera features infrared night vision reaching up to 33 feet, color imaging in dim light, motion alerts, and an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance. It runs on four AA lithium batteries, with USB-C available for continuous external power.

However, maximum range comes with a trade-off: XR+ mode limits video to 1080p and turns off two-way audio.

Beyond the Frontier XR+, Amazon has four new additions

Amazon’s other four Blink cameras target different security needs, from capturing finer details to illuminating dark areas and tracking movement across a room. Each offers a different combination of resolution, connectivity, power requirements, and viewing features.

The Blink Mini 4K+ is Blink’s first 4K security camera, recording at 3840 × 2160 pixels. It offers a 115-degree horizontal field of view, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, two-way audio, and an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance.

The higher resolution can help users inspect finer details in recorded footage. Still, it doesn’t guarantee clear identification of faces or license plates, especially in poor lighting or when subjects move quickly.

The camera also requires wired power, while its Smart Alerts feature uses computer vision to distinguish movement caused by people and vehicles from other motion. That allows users to receive specific alerts and filter clips by detection type. However, this feature requires a compatible Blink subscription.

The Blink Outdoor 2K XR+ is designed for locations beyond the reach of conventional home Wi-Fi setups. It records at up to 2K resolution and can connect to its hub from up to 2,700 feet with a clear line of sight. Under some obstructed conditions, the advertised range falls to 800 feet.

As with the Frontier XR+, maximum-range operation comes at the expense of resolution, dropping to 1080p.

The Blink Spotlight Cam 2K+ is Blink’s first battery-powered spotlight camera. It combines 2K video with built-in lighting that activates when it detects motion, effectively serving as a deterrent. Its battery-powered design lets you install it without a dedicated wired power connection, which can be a plus in remote areas.

Finally, the Blink Mini Pan-Tilt 2K+ features a motorized mount that rotates 350 degrees horizontally and tilts 115 degrees vertically, allowing users to adjust the camera’s viewing angle. It also offers 2K video, night vision, two-way audio, and a siren.

Like the Mini 4K+, it supports Smart Alerts that distinguish people and vehicles from other motion, although this feature requires a compatible subscription.

Preorders opened in the US on Oct. 21, with prices starting at $49.99 for the Blink Mini Pan-Tilt 2K+. The Mini 4K+ costs $79.99, Spotlight Cam 2K+ $109.99, Outdoor 2K XR+ $149.99, and Frontier XR+ $199.99. The two XR+ models include a compatible Sync Module XR+ hub.

Availability may vary by region, so buyers should check their local Blink or Amazon storefront.

Prospective buyers should also account for subscription fees and any additional accessories needed to access their preferred features

The Blink app requires iOS 16.4 or later, Android 10 or later, or Fire OS 8 or later.

Where these products shine

The biggest benefit of these security cameras is not how many pixels they record, but whether they help users monitor places they would otherwise struggle to keep an eye on. Amazon’s new Blink lineup addresses different needs, and not every household will need the same features.

For homeowners with large compounds, farms, or detached buildings, the Frontier XR+ and Outdoor 2K XR+ let you monitor distant areas beyond conventional Wi-Fi reach.

The Spotlight Cam 2K+ is better suited to dark entrances, garages, and side yards where motion-triggered lighting can improve visibility.

Indoors, the Mini 4K+ prioritizes image detail, while the Mini Pan-Tilt 2K+ lets users enjoy adjustable views that cover more of the environment.

However, these cameras are not substitutes for careful placement or a complete security system. Walls, trees, and interference can limit wireless range, while a moving camera cannot watch every direction at once.

Subscriptions and accessories can also increase the total cost. Buyers should start with the area they need to monitor and the features they actually require, rather than paying for specifications they may never use.

Other news: Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro promises up to 36 hours of video playback, three hours more than the iPhone 17 Pro and 13 hours more than the iPhone 15 Pro, according to Apple’s US-market specifications.
