The OnePlus 16 is bringing some serious numbers to the Android flagship race: a massive 9,000mAh battery, a 200MP main camera, and a display that can reach 185Hz in supported games.
Set to launch in China on Oct. 12, the phone will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor and an illuminated rear-panel design. But there’s a catch for US buyers: OnePlus has ended new product rollouts in North America and Europe, making an official release in those markets unlikely.
With major upgrades to battery capacity, gaming performance, and photography, the OnePlus 16 looks promising on paper. Here’s what we know about its specifications, expected pricing, release date, and whether it’s worth waiting for.
What is the OnePlus 16?
The OnePlus 16 is the company’s upcoming flagship Android smartphone, succeeding the OnePlus 15 with upgrades focused on battery capacity, photography, and gaming performance.
According to Android Authority’s reporting on OnePlus’s official teasers, the company has confirmed a 9,000mAh battery and a BOE X4 display supporting refresh rates of up to 185Hz in compatible games.
OnePlus has also confirmed that the phone will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. The company has announced a 200MP main camera and a rear lighting feature available on one color variant.
Those specifications suggest substantial hardware improvements, although actual battery endurance, camera quality, and sustained gaming performance will require independent testing.
When will the OnePlus 16 be released?
The OnePlus 16 is scheduled to launch in China on Oct. 12, 2026.
OnePlus announced the launch date on its official Weibo account, according to Android Authority’s coverage. The company has not announced a separate US or European release. In its official notice of business adjustment, OnePlus confirmed that it has decided to conclude new product rollouts in North America and Europe.
That decision makes an official OnePlus 16 launch in those markets unlikely, although third-party importers may still offer Chinese-market models.
OnePlus says existing devices in the affected regions will continue receiving software updates, security patches, and after-sales support in accordance with applicable warranty and support obligations.

How much will the OnePlus 16 cost?
OnePlus has not announced official pricing for the OnePlus 16. An earlier leak suggested a starting price of CNY 4,999, or roughly $740, in China, but newer prebooking information calls that estimate into question.
A report from Gadgets 360, citing tipster @OnePlusClub, previously suggested prices ranging from CNY 4,999 for an 8GB/256GB model to CNY 7,499 for a limited-edition 16GB/1TB model.
However, the rumored 8GB/256GB configuration does not appear in OnePlus’s newer Chinese prebooking listings.
According to Android Authority’s coverage of the prebooking information, the phone is listed with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 256GB to 1TB.
The listed configurations are:
| 12GB | 256GB | Not announced |
| 12GB | 512GB | Not announced |
| 16GB | 512GB | Not announced |
| 16GB | 1TB | Not announced |
Because the prebooking lineup begins at 12GB/256GB, the earlier CNY 4,999 figure should not be treated as a reliable estimate of the phone’s actual starting price.
The original pricing information came from a single tipster and has not been independently corroborated. Other publications repeating the same leak do not establish its accuracy.
For comparison, the OnePlus 15 launched in China at CNY 3,999 for its 12GB/256GB configuration. However, without official OnePlus 16 pricing, it is too early to determine how the two phones compare on price.
Buyers considering an imported OnePlus 16 should account for shipping costs, taxes, warranty limitations, and regional software differences.
What are the biggest OnePlus 16 upgrades?
A 9,000mAh battery promises substantially more capacity
OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 16 will feature a 9,000mAh Glacier Battery, compared with the OnePlus 15’s 7,300mAh capacity. That represents an increase of approximately 23%, although battery capacity alone does not determine how long a phone will last between charges.
According to GSMArena’s coverage of the battery announcement, OnePlus executive Li Jie Louis disclosed the capacity through Weibo.
The phone also supports 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. OnePlus has paired the battery with an OPPO-developed power-management chip designed to improve energy efficiency and maintain stable performance, including during gaming at low battery levels.
OnePlus says its power-management technology is designed to help maintain battery health over five years of daily use. That manufacturer claim has not been independently verified through long-term testing.
The combination could make the OnePlus 16 attractive to users who prioritize battery endurance, although real-world testing will be needed to determine how much additional usage time the larger battery delivers.

A 185Hz gaming mode targets smoother gameplay
The OnePlus 16 uses a BOE X4 display with a 165Hz system-wide refresh rate, reaching 185Hz in compatible games.
According to Gadgets 360’s coverage of OnePlus’s gaming announcements, the company showcased a gaming mode that supports up to 185 frames per second in select titles.
The distinction between refresh rate and frame rate matters. The display’s refresh rate describes how often it can update the image, while frame rate describes how many frames the game actually produces.
Although the screen can operate at 185Hz in supported gaming scenarios, reaching 185fps requires compatible games and sufficient processing performance. OnePlus has identified titles such as Peace Elite and Arena Breakout as receiving support.
Actual gaming performance will depend on software optimization, thermal management, and the device’s ability to sustain high frame rates.
A 200MP main camera leads the photography upgrades
OnePlus has announced a 200MP main camera for the OnePlus 16, representing a substantial increase in resolution over the OnePlus 15’s 50MP primary camera.
According to Android Authority’s coverage of the camera announcement, the main camera uses a 1/1.4-inch sensor paired with an f/1.6 lens.
The phone also features a 50MP ultrawide camera and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.
The telephoto camera uses a larger 1/1.95-inch Sony IMX882 sensor, replacing the Samsung S5KJN5 sensor in the OnePlus 15. However, optical zoom decreases from 3.5x on the OnePlus 15 to 3x on the OnePlus 16, meaning the larger sensor does not represent an improvement in every specification.
OnePlus has also announced a 50MP front-facing camera with autofocus, compared with the OnePlus 15’s 32MP front camera.
The camera system incorporates OPPO’s Lumo color-processing technology and a 65:24 panoramic mode inspired by Hasselblad’s XPan format.
OnePlus has also described an enhanced manual photography mode intended to produce more natural, film-like images. Its effectiveness has not yet been independently established.
A higher megapixel count does not automatically produce better photographs. Sensor performance, image processing, stabilization, and low-light capabilities will determine how the OnePlus 16 compares with other flagship phones.

Three colors and a new illuminated rear design
OnePlus has revealed three color options for the OnePlus 16: Tomorrow’s Starlight, Dark Forest, and Mars Masterpiece. English translations of the Chinese color names vary slightly across publications.
According to GSMArena’s coverage of the design reveal, one of the finishes features an illuminated rear-panel design.
The feature, described as the Interstellar Lighting Effect, responds to incoming calls, messages, and certain gaming activities, providing the phone with an additional visual notification.
The Dark Forest finish is black, while Mars Masterpiece features a light orange design. The illuminated feature is associated with the Tomorrow’s Starlight version, and the availability of every color across all RAM and storage configurations remains unclear.
Will the OnePlus 16 be available in the US?
The OnePlus 16 is not expected to receive an official US or European launch following OnePlus’s decision to end new product rollouts in those markets.
That does not necessarily mean consumers in those regions will be unable to obtain the phone. Third-party importers may offer Chinese-market models, though availability and pricing will vary by seller.
Importing a smartphone introduces additional considerations, including cellular band compatibility, regional software, Google services, warranty support, and return policies.
Buyers should verify those details for the exact model being sold rather than assuming a Chinese-market device will work identically to a locally supported phone. OnePlus’s continued support commitments for existing regional devices should not be assumed to extend to independently imported OnePlus 16 models.

Should you purchase the OnePlus 16?
The OnePlus 16 could appeal to buyers who prioritize large batteries, high-refresh-rate gaming, and flagship Android hardware. But the specifications alone do not determine whether it is the best choice.
Before deciding whether to wait or purchase another smartphone, consider three factors:
- Regional availability: Confirm whether the phone will be sold and supported in your country.
- Price and overall value: Wait for official pricing before comparing it with other flagship Android devices.
- Independent testing: Look for benchmarks for battery, camera, and gaming performance rather than relying solely on manufacturer specifications.
For US buyers, regional support may be the deciding factor. Even a phone with impressive hardware can be a difficult purchase if its warranty coverage, cellular compatibility, or repair options are uncertain.
The Oct. 12 launch should provide the remaining pricing and configuration details. Until then, the OnePlus 16 presents a promising specification sheet, but its real-world value will depend on testing, availability, and the practical costs of ownership.
