HP said i have a maximum storage limit?

I was thinking of getting a 2tb laptop HDD to expand the storage of my new laptop. It came with a 512GB SSD but there were variants with just a HDD, so they should be able to have both, but HP was saying that i could only have a certain amount of HDD storage with this SSD. I have never heard of this. Can anyone tell me if this is true or not?

This would have to be a very very old laptop for this limit to be there.

In the future tell more such as the make, model, year and if the BIOS is current.

From my experience I have only seen this issue on decade or older PCs.

Sorry, I forgot to put in the specs. It’s a HP 255 G7, AMD Ryzen 5 3500u. I’ve only recently purchased it new. So, as far as I know, it is running newest BIOS. It is UEFI, i have checked that. It just seems weird that they said that the way it is configured, it would only be able to support 1TB, I’d never heard of limitations like this before, not that I’m a professional, but i am at least slightly proficient. Thank you for the reply.
