Question

Locked

IP Address

By pinkdiamondgail ·
Someone gave me an HP pavilion xe900 and I cannot connect to the internet (I have another post about that) when I type ipconfig/all it does not show any addresses;ipv4 address, subnet mask, default gateway, dhcp server or the dns servers. What am I doing wrong. And when I pull up my internet protocol properties there is nothing in any of the boxes;ip address, subnet mask and the default gateway. Please help me.

Just to confirm, you should have run a command prompt (cmd) and typed "ipconfig /all", remembering the 'space'.
You should be able to check in your control panel(assuming windows operating system) for "network connections" and see if you have any problems with your network adapters.
It could be that your network adapter is broken.
Are you trying to connect with a cable or wirelessly?

No IP address when tried ipconfig /all

by stephen_raj In reply to IP Address

As you said it is not giving you any information when tried the ipconfig /all - i believe this is a problem with the Network adapters, make sure they are installed properly, if possible uninstall it - reboot the computer and re-install it which will fix this problem. If this does not resolve the issue goto start->control panel->network and internet connections->click on network connections->choose properties by right clicking the local area connection->make sure you find a check mark on the Internet protocol/TCP/ip, also make sure there is a check mark on "show icon notification area when connected" on the same window

If it is a wireless connection try bypassing the router (connecting the modem directly to the computer).. if it works reset the router and configure it again which will fix the issue and you can use it wirelessly..

hope this fixes the problem

Thanks for your time,
Stephen D.
