“No signal” on monitor when connecting to laptop via HDMI <--> USB-C cable

by tom.st . Updated 6 years, 2 months ago

Hi all,

I have a laptop, two monitors, a HDMI <--> HDMI cable, a HDMI <--> USB-C cable. When I connect my laptop to monitor via HDMI <--> USB-C, the monitor displays “No Signal”, while my laptop and other monitor screens flicker. Sometimes, the monitor picks up the signal and I have all three screens operating. Most of the time, the monitor in question displays “No Signal” while the other two screens flicker. Help?

Troubleshooted:
– turned computer off/on
– tried HDMI <--> USB-C cable on the second monitor (same problems), while switching the HDMI <--> HDMI to the first monitor (worked fine)
– replaced HDMI <--> USB-C cable with a different, more $$$ brand (same problems)
– sometimes, when the HDMI <--> USB-C is plugged in, in my laptop Display Settings, it displays that three screens are connected (i.e. laptop + 2x monitor)

Laptop: HP EliteBook 840 G5
Monitor (x2): ViewSonic VX2457-MHD
HDMI <--> USB-C cable: I have had this issue with two different brand of cable (i.e. same problems experienced as described above)

Thanks in advance!
