Any project management tips/web links for a PC Replacement project?

Spend most of your time up-front documenting your current environment.

1. Make sure you know what applications are used, who uses them, where the data is kept, and where the original install disks are.

2. Make sure you know the printing environment.

3. Make sure you know if there are any weird application specific configuration settings that need to be done to each workstation.

4. Make sure you find out if the applications will work on the new hardware/software.

5. Make sure you know the network settings (TCP/IP, netbios, etc.).

6. If possible or neccessary, back up data from the workstations to a central network on-line storage area (just in case).

Finally, get enough staff to help in the project.
